Our mission is to improve the quality of life for people with disabilities and encourage them to take the first step to try new experiences that previously were considered beyond their reach. It is also our goal to educate their able bodied peers to enable them both to live together with new respect and understanding. The Door In The Wall organization was founded by The Blair Family in 1994. Our youngest daughter contracted spinal meningitis when she was two months old and now she uses a wheelchair for her mobility. The organization was started to share information with other families that deal with a disability on a day to day basis. Sharing information can be life changing and makes life so much better. We also noticed that there was a need in the South Texas area for adapted sports and social events. See our free special events calendar on our web page. It is my feeling that rural areas, lakes, hunting leases, etc. are often very hard to get to for the person with a disability. We are working toward making fishing and camping available to everyone regardless of their abilities. We feel this is important. Almost everyone can remember a favorite fishing hole or secluded swimming spot where, if you're lucky, you might see some turtles basking on a log or a fish jumping for a water bug, not to mention the smell of the camp fire and the sounds of a windmill or the sound of a spring rain.
